Gaurav Gogoi flags land issues, launches second phase of Xomoy Poriborton Yatra from Assam's Golaghat

Assam Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on February 26, said the second phase of the Xomoy Poriborton Yatra has begun from Golaghat, with the aim of reaching grassroots and remote villages across the region.

Speaking to reporters, Gogoi said the rally started from the national highway and is focused on connecting directly with local people. “We have taken this initiative to reach the grassroots and the remotest villages. The way people have showered us with support, we thank them,” he said.

When asked about a possible alliance, Gogoi said he had earlier spoken about “predictability and probability” and maintained the same position. He did not elaborate further.

Raising the issue of land rights, Gogoi alleged that people in the Doyang region are yet to receive land pattas, while “a family sitting in Dispur owns 12,000 bighas of land in Assam.” He demanded a probe into the matter.

He also claimed that after the rollout of the Basundhara 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 schemes, several BJP members have allegedly become owners of hundreds of acres of land.

The Congress leader said land rights and transparency would remain key issues in the party’s outreach campaign.
