Gaurav Gogoi is an anti-national character: BJP MP Dilip Saikia

Assam BJP president and Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia on February 9, accused Assam Pradesh Congress president and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi, of acting against the nation’s interests and questioning his commitment to national security.

Reacting to Gaurav Gogoi’s press conference, Saikia alleged that the Congress leader has repeatedly raised questions that undermine India’s security apparatus both inside and outside Parliament. He further claimed that Gogoi has maintained “friendly engagements” with Pakistan, a country India considers a hostile neighbour.

“Gaurav Gogoi is an anti-national character. As a Member of Parliament, he questions the security of our country on various platforms. How can an elected representative, who takes oath on the Indian Constitution in the sacred temple of Parliament, maintain relations with enemy nations?” Saikia said while addressing the media.

The BJP leader stressed that while the controversy has generated intense debate in Assam due to Gogoi’s political standing in the state, the issue should not be confined regionally. “This is not just Assam’s concern. The matter should be highlighted across the country because it involves national interest and the integrity of our democratic institutions,” Saikia asserted.

Saikia further stated that national security should rise above political affiliations and warned that any conduct perceived as compromising India’s sovereignty must be scrutinised seriously. The remarks have intensified the ongoing political confrontation between the BJP and the Congress in the run-up to crucial political developments in the state.

The Congress party has not immediately responded to Saikia’s allegations.
