Gaurav Gogoi slams Assam CM, cites ED raids as proof of illegal coal syndicate in state

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on May 28 slammed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, stating recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids as evidence of illegal coal mining operations in the state.

In the press conference held at AICC, Delhi Gogoi said, the ED conducted raids on April 24 at multiple locations across Assam and Meghalaya as part of an investigation into an illegal coal syndicate. “During the search, cash worth ₹1.58 crore, digital devices, and two high-end vehicles were seized,” Gogoi stated.

He further cited, "this revelation proves the Assam CM wrong, as the ED alleged the existence of coal syndicate in Assam and Meghalaya".

Gogoi questions about the investigation asking if it’s going to be limited till the recovery of Rs 1.58 crores? “Why has no action been taken by the State and Central Govt, such a coal syndicate is going to create pressure on the economy, ecology and society of the Northeast”, questioned Gogoi.

“We demand a CBI inquiry into this matter”, said Gogoi. He alleged, without political protection from the state and central government, it would not have been possible demanding a CBI inquiry.
