Gaurav Gogoi visits family of former union minister and BJP veteran Kabindra Purkayastha in Silchar

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on January 28 visited the residence of late former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Kabindra Purkayastha in Silchar after concluding his election campaign in the Katigorah area of Assam’s Cachar district.

Earlier in the day, Gogoi participated in poll-related activities in Katigorah before travelling to Silchar, where he met several Congress party workers. He later called on the family of Kabindra Purkayastha at their residence and interacted with his son, Kanad Purkayastha, conveying his condolences and prayers for the well-being of the family.

Kabindra Purkayastha, a former Union Minister of State and a veteran leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, passed away on January 7 at the age of 94 in Silchar. A founding member of the BJP, Purkayastha was born on December 15, 1931, in Kamarkhal in the then Sylhet district, now in Bangladesh. He had been closely associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh since 1951 and played a significant role in strengthening the BJP’s organisational base across the Northeast.

The visit by the Congress MP comes at a time when election campaigning is underway in the Barak Valley region, drawing attention across party lines.
