Gaurav Gogoi vows to rebuild a stronger Assam after taking charge as APCC President

In a major organisational revamp ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, the Indian National Congress has appointed Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi as the new President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC). The announcement was made by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) with immediate effect.

Gaurav Gogoi, a three-time MP and the son of late former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, expressed deep gratitude towards the national leadership for their trust in him. In a statement, Gogoi said,

“First of all, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Indian National Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi, AICC General Secretaries K.C. Venugopal and Jitendra Singh, and Sonia Gandhi for entrusting such a big responsibility on the shoulders of the youth fraternity.”

He also took a moment to acknowledge the leadership of his predecessor, Bhupen Kumar Borah, stating,

“Our senior and former APCC Chief Bhupen Borah ji has beautifully led the team during his tenure. Several of our colleagues have now been entrusted with new responsibilities, and we will unitedly work together for the party.”

Gaurav Gogoi paid tribute to his father, Tarun Gogoi, saying that it is under his principles and guidance that he continues to serve the people of Assam. He also extended gratitude to his family, especially his children, for supporting him through his political journey.

“I seek the blessings and support of the people of Assam to create a new and strong Assam for the upcoming Assembly elections,” he added.

As part of the restructuring, the Congress high command has also appointed Jakir Hussain Sikdar, Roselina Tirkey, and Pradip Sarkar as the Working Presidents of the APCC.

Former president Bhupen Borah will now serve as the Chairperson of the APCC Campaign Committee, a critical role as the party prepares for electoral battle. Meanwhile, Roselina Tirkey has been relieved of her previous responsibilities as AICC Secretary to focus fully on her new position in the state unit.

The reshuffle also includes the formation of key committees to spearhead campaign planning and execution in Assam, signalling the Congress party’s strategic push to regain political ground in the state.
