Gold jewellery worth lakhs, cash stolen in Assam's Silchar house break-in
A house was allegedly burgled in Silchar’s Satsang Ashram Road area on Tuesday evening, August 18, with thieves fleeing with cash and gold jewellery worth several lakhs of rupees.
The incident took place at the residence of Dibakar Bhattacharyya at Sridhar Lane when the family was away.
According to the family, the thieves allegedly broke open the main door to enter the house and later ransacked a cupboard, from where they took cash and gold ornaments.
The family members discovered the theft after returning home at night. They found the door open and household belongings scattered inside the house.
Local residents subsequently informed the National Highway Outpost, following which police personnel reached the spot and initiated an investigation.
A case has been registered at the outpost in connection with the incident.
The family has urged police to identify and arrest those involved, recover the stolen valuables and take strict action against the accused.
Police are investigating the incident and efforts are underway to identify the suspects.
