Goods vehicle plunges into gorge in Arunachal, two from Assam killed

Another tragic road accident has struck Arunachal, claiming the lives of two persons from Assam after a goods-carrying vehicle plunged down a steep hillside in the remote Hunli area of Lower Dibang Valley district.

According to official sources, the accident occurred on January 25, when a Tata Intra/Tata Magic goods vehicle, transporting consignments for TCI Company, was en route from Assam to Anini. The vehicle reportedly lost control after crossing the treacherous Mayodia stretch and plunged into a deep gorge near Hunli.

The incident came to light only after the vehicle failed to return for three consecutive days, prompting worried family members to lodge a missing complaint at Tinsukia Sadar Police Station. Acting on the complaint, police launched a search operation and subsequently traced the vehicle that had fallen off the mountainside in Arunachal Pradesh.

The deceased have been identified as Manoj Shah, the driver of the vehicle and a resident of a rented house near Devipukhuri in Tinsukia, and another individual identified as Chetri, a resident of Makum in Assam.

Following confirmation of the accident, police personnel, along with the families of the deceased, rushed to the spot. Rescue and recovery operations are currently underway, with authorities facing challenges due to the difficult terrain and remote location of the crash site.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
