"Government working on war footing to aid Assam flood victims," says BJP MLA Manab Deka

BJP MLA Manab Deka on Wednesday, July 22 said the Assam government is carrying out relief and rescue operations on a war footing in flood-affected areas, describing the current flood situation as unprecedented for several regions of the state.

Speaking on the prevailing flood situation in Assam, Deka said several areas that are usually unaffected by severe flooding have witnessed extensive inundation this time. He attributed the unusual flood conditions to a cloudburst in neighbouring Nagaland, which, he said, led to an unexpected surge in water levels across parts of Assam.

The legislator said that while floods are a recurring phenomenon in Assam, the scale and nature of flooding witnessed in the affected areas this time are unlike previous years. He added that the government has mobilised relief and rescue efforts and is working to provide assistance to those impacted by the disaster.

Deka said natural calamities cannot be prevented, but stressed that the state government is discharging its responsibilities with urgency to ensure timely relief and rehabilitation. He also said that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was scheduled to visit the affected areas to assess the situation and review ongoing relief measures.

The state government has intensified rescue, relief and restoration efforts as floodwaters continue to affect multiple districts, with authorities monitoring the situation closely.
