Gramshakti Research Centre opens in Assam's Morigaon to boost financial literacy among rural women
The Gramshakti Research Centre (GSRC) has been inaugurated in Morigaon district with the objective of strengthening the rural economy and promoting financial independence among women.
The centre has been established as a joint initiative of the Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Nidhi (RGVN) and the CRISIL Foundation, with support from S&P Global, and focuses on improving financial literacy in rural areas.
Speaking to the media, RGVN Field Manager Sarang Talukdar said the GSRC aims to bridge the knowledge gap among rural women regarding basic financial services. He said that despite increasing digitalisation, many women remain unaware of essential financial facilities such as bank accounts, insurance coverage, and pension schemes.
Talukdar added that the centre will identify women with limited access to financial awareness and connect them with suitable government and private financial schemes, enabling them to make informed financial decisions.
He further stated that the centre will be managed by Dipshikha Deka Patar, who has been associated with RGVN and the CRISIL Foundation since 2018. Based on her experience, she has been appointed as the Gramshakti Sakhi (GSRC Sakhi) to oversee the centre’s operations.
The initiative has received a positive response from local residents, who expressed hope that the centre would contribute to long-term economic development and women’s empowerment in the district.
