'Greed for power has led them astray': Sarbananda Sonowal takes a swipe at Congress

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday, November 5 criticised the Congress and its INDIA bloc allies, accusing them of spreading misinformation and creating confusion among people, while questioning their governance record at the Centre and in various states.

Speaking in Siliguri, Sonowal said the Congress, which governed the country for nearly six decades, had failed to address key issues such as poverty and development despite its prolonged tenure in power.

Questioning the Congress's political approach, the Union minister said the party and its allies, including the Trinamool Congress (TMC), had remained in power in several states for 15 to 20 years but had failed to deliver on their promises.

"What has suddenly happened to the Congress? People across the country are discussing this. The Congress ruled for nearly 60 years, while its allies in the INDIA bloc, including the TMC and other parties, have governed their respective states for 15 to 20 years. Yet, what has become of them today?" Sonowal said.

He alleged that the opposition parties were attempting to mislead people and create confusion out of what he described as their "greed for power".

Sonowal also accused the Congress of failing to implement meaningful development programmes and eradicate poverty during its years in power.

The Union minister further alleged that the Congress had been responsible for several deaths during its tenure in different states and had been involved in attempts to undermine democratic institutions.

He said Congress leaders were unable to respond when people questioned the party about its past governance and political record.
