Guwahati-bound Kamakhya Express runs over youth in Dhubri

A tragic accident claimed the life of a 30-year-old youth in the Bahadurtari area of Dhubri on Wednesday morning (April 8) after he was struck by a passenger train near the town’s outskirts.

The deceased, identified as Khokon Haldar, was a resident of Bahadurtari. The incident took place around 7:20 AM in the Binpatti stretch, where the railway tracks run dangerously close to the Dhubri–Guwahati highway.

According to eyewitnesses, the Guwahati-bound Kamakhya Express had just departed from Dhubri railway station and was gaining speed when it hit Haldar, leading to his instant death. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, including whether the victim was attempting to cross the tracks.

Local residents rushed to the spot following the incident, with a pall of gloom descending over the area. A team from Dhubri Police Station soon arrived to secure the scene and control the gathering crowd.

Police have initiated a preliminary investigation into the incident. Railway authorities have repeatedly cautioned against walking along the Binpatti stretch, citing the narrow gap between the highway and railway line as a persistent hazard for pedestrians.
