Assam: Guwahati celebrates magic of puppetry with dance and drama

Guwahati-based school witnessed a vibrant event organized by the International Art and Cultural Foundation, Bangalore, as a part of the India International Puppet Festival on January 12.

The foundation, known for championing endangered folk arts, orchestrated a captivating event on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, featuring the puppet dance performance 'Tejimala Natak' directed by Seemanta Sharma through the Mukak Puppet Theatre.

A  festival organisation exclaimed, “It's a delightful occasion as the India International Puppet Festival concludes its four-day celebration across the Northeast, specifically in Assam. Various districts in the region are actively participating in the festivities, coinciding with the Youth Day on January 12, commemorating the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The festivities are marked by captivating puppet shows, adding a unique and creative touch to the celebration of this special day".

On the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, 'Tejimala Natak' took center stage at Parijat Academy. The puppet dance, directed by Simanta Sharma through Mukak Puppet Theatre, brought joy and cultural richness to the audience. The International Art and Cultural Foundation, dedicated to preserving traditional arts, curated this event, aligning with its mission of promoting endangered folk arts across India.

The festival not only celebrated puppets but also emphasized the significance of nearly forgotten folk arts. 'Tejimala' served as a cultural highlight, enchanting the audience with its unique storytelling through puppetry. The International Art and Cultural Foundation's efforts to promote these art forms were evident in the lively performance at Parijat Academy.

The puppet dance performance beautifully conveyed the essence of Swami Vivekananda's teachings, blending entertainment with cultural significance. Simanta Sharma's direction through Mukak Puppet Theatre added a touch of innovation to the celebration.
