Guwahati-Mankachar night buses attacked in Meghalaya’s Tikrikilla, several windshields damaged, drivers injured

Several night super buses travelling from Guwahati to Mankachar came under attack by unidentified miscreants in Meghalaya’s Tikrikilla area around 2 am on Sunday (September 21) night, leaving some drivers injured and damaging the windshields of multiple buses.

According to reports, the buses were passing through Tikrikilla when a group of miscreants allegedly began pelting them with stones. The attack damaged the front windshields of several buses, while a few drivers reportedly sustained injuries.

Despite the attack, the drivers managed to move away from the area and reached the Tikrikilla police station, where they informed the police about the incident.

Police personnel subsequently rushed to the reported location, but the suspected attackers had already fled.

Passengers travelling on the buses reportedly suspected that around 10 to 12 people may have been involved in the stone-pelting. There were also suspicions that the attack could have been intended to force the buses to stop and facilitate robbery. However, police have not yet established the motive behind the incident.

Tikrikilla police have launched an investigation and are examining the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The buses were reportedly allowed to resume their journey towards Mankachar after about two hours, following police intervention and necessary security arrangements.

The incident has raised concerns over the safety of passengers and drivers travelling on the Guwahati-Mankachar route during night hours.
