Heavy rain triggers flooding in Assam's Kaliabor, homes submerged in Bamuni, over 50 families affected

More than 50 families have been affected after water flowing down from the Karbi Hills inundated residential areas in Bhatabari of Bamuni in Assam’s Kaliabor following incessant rainfall since Tuesday, September 22 night.

The heavy rain led to a sudden rise in the flow of water from the hill areas, inundating homes and agricultural fields in the locality. Several houses have been submerged, with floodwater reportedly reaching knee level inside some residences.

Residents said they were forced to move out of their homes and take shelter along roads and other elevated areas as the water level continued to rise.

The flooding has also damaged agricultural fields and resulted in the loss of livestock belonging to several families, adding to the difficulties faced by residents.

The area has witnessed flooding after nearly 15 years, according to local residents.

Authorities are monitoring the situation as water continues to affect residential and agricultural areas in the locality.
