Heroin worth Rs 11 crore seized in Assam’s Amingaon, two held
The Special Task Force (STF) seized a large consignment of heroin worth an estimated Rs 11 crore and arrested two persons during an operation at Assam’s Amingaon on January 12.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs that a consignment of heroin was being transported from a neighbouring state, an STF team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Kumar Pathak intercepted two vehicles, a Thar and a Maruti Jimny.
During a search, the STF recovered 97 soap boxes containing heroin concealed in specially built compartments of the vehicles. Of these, 40 packets were seized from the Thar and 57 from the Maruti Jimny. Officials said the seized contraband weighed 1.358 kg, excluding the soap box covers. The heroin was packed in a manner intended to evade detection.
The drivers of the vehicles were identified as Anowar Hussain Kaji (33), and Aminul Sikdar (33). Both are residents of Barpeta district.
The two were arrested on the spot, and necessary legal action has been initiated against them, officials said.
