Himanta Biswa Sarma announces Rs 3,000 cr Asom Mala Project connecting Assam through a 1,000 km corridor

In an announcement on December 18, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to the microblogging site X to share the transformative impact of the Rs 3,000 crore Asom Mala initiative. The initiative is set to weave a 1,000 km long corridor of roads and bridges, aiming to enhance all-weather and high-speed intra-state connectivity.

The Government of Assam, under this ambitious project, has committed to the construction, refurbishment, and extension of roads across the length and breadth of the state. This extensive network is poised to serve as the lifeline of the fast-growing state economy, bridging distances and bringing people together.

Among the key programs driving the Asom Mala initiative are:
1.    SOPD
2.    ASRIP
3.    ASCCIP
4.    NIDA
Under the SOPD program, several milestones have already been achieved, including the completion of projects such as Ghographur-Damodardham Bijulighat in Nalbari, Singimari-Sualkuchi (4 laning) in Kamrup, Garmur-Jengrai in Majuli, and Dhupguri-Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur (96% completed). The Dolongghat to Tangla stretch in Darrang is currently at 65% completion.

The ASRIP initiative has seen noteworthy projects like Dhodor Ali in Golaghat, Sarthebari-Pathsala in Barpeta, and Balichapori-Majuli-Bongalmara in Lakhimpur, along with the construction of the Subansiri River Bridge.

ASCCIP has successfully implemented projects like Chapaguri Amteka at the Bhutan border, Jogighopa Oudibi in Bongaigaon, Borkhola Kambar Bazar in Kalain, and Hailakandi Dwarbond.

NIDA, focusing on urban development, has contributed to projects like Rowta-Missamari Road, Dirakgate-Pengerree Road, Kokrajhar-Rupsi Airport (Kokrajhar Bypass), and Dergaon-Golaghat in Rangajan.

Chief Minister Sarma expressed his optimism about the Asom Mala initiative acting as a catalyst for socio-economic development, fostering connectivity, and propelling Assam into a new era of growth.
