Himanta Biswa Sarma assures additional security for Congress MP Rakibul Hussain after attack in Nagaon

Responding in the Assam Assembly, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the recent attack on Congress MP Rakibul Hussain in Nagaon's Rupahi area.

Sarma assured that the state government would provide additional security whenever the MP visits Samaguri and Rupohihat, citing repeated incidents involving him over the past year.

"Today, at around 2:30 PM, Congress MP Rakibul Hussain was obstructed by the public while travelling to Gunabari village under Rupahi Police Station. Following the obstruction, his PSO fired four rounds of blank fire. I assure you that whenever he visits Rupahi Town Village in Samaguri, the state government will provide additional security," Sarma stated.

The incident occurred at Natun Bazar, where unidentified miscreants, with their faces covered in black cloth, waved black flags before attacking Hussain.

His bodyguard was also assaulted in the chaos, escalating tensions at the scene. To prevent further violence and ensure the MP's safety, security personnel fired warning shots in the air.

The attack has raised concerns over political tensions in Assam, with calls for stronger measures to protect public representatives from potential threats.

Meanwhile, protesters burned an effigy of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma outside Rajib Bhawan in Dhubri. The protest was organized to condemn the attack of Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain.

Effigy burning has been a recurring form of protest in Assam. For instance, two months ago, protesters burned an effigy of CM Sarma outside Indira Bhawan in Sribhumi, condemning the death of a Congress worker.
