Himanta Biswa Sarma: Gandhis must face ED, return Rs 2,000 crore to people

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has accused the Gandhi family of fraudulently taking over a company initially valued at Rs 50 lakh and converting it into a Rs 2,000 crore enterprise.

Addressing the media, CM Sarma questioned the source of the drastic rise in wealth and demanded that the money be returned to the people and the Congress party.

Referring to a company formerly known as the National Herald’s Hurel company, Sarma said, “They had a capital of just Rs 50 lakh. After the company was taken over fraudulently by the Gandhi family, its net worth rose to Rs 2,000 crore. It is a Section 9 company, like our cancer foundation, where profit is not allowed. Yet they were making profits.”

Drawing comparisons with industrialists, Sarma remarked, “Rahul Gandhi often questions Adani and Ambani on how they earn money. My question is, where did he learn these business tricks to turn Rs 50 lakh into Rs 2,000 crore? If he teaches me that, I can change the fate of Assam.”

He also took a swipe at the current state of Congress party infrastructure. “Have you seen the condition of Rajiv Bhavan in Assam? If the Gandhis had put that money back into the party, they could have improved the party offices,” he said, adding that ordinary Congress workers were unaware of the wealth allegedly accumulated by their top leaders.

Expressing sympathy for grassroots Congress workers, Sarma said, “These poor people don’t realize that their leaders have taken immense money. The leaders are minting money while ordinary workers are being deprived.”

The Assam chief minister further urged Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and prove their innocence. “They keep calling others corrupt but forget that they are also accused and have been served notices. It’s time they prove their innocence,” he said.

Sarma’s remarks come amid ongoing protests by Congress workers across the country.
