Himanta Biswa Sarma: It is always our wish that Paresh Baruah comes to the discussion table

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on April 12 voiced his aspirations for the involvement of Paresh Baruah, the elusive leader of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), in peace talks. Sarma stated the importance of fostering a conducive atmosphere for dialogue in the region.

Sarma's remarks came in response to questions regarding the recent decision of Paresh Baruah's elder brother to join the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). Clarifying the situation, Sarma asserted that the elder Baruah's association with AGP should be viewed solely in his personal capacity, devoid of any implications for Paresh Baruah's stance or the ongoing peace process.

"It is always our wish that Paresh Baruah comes to the discussion table," Sarma said, highlighting the government's steadfast commitment to engaging in constructive dialogue with the ULFA leader. He stressed the need for all stakeholders to maintain the positive atmosphere prevailing in Assam and emphasized that discussions are directed towards Paresh Baruah himself, rather than his brother.
