Himanta Biswa Sarma responds to Jayanta Das’s resignation, says party took the right decision

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on March 21 reacted to senior BJP leader Jayanta Kumar Das’s remarks on television following his resignation from the party.

Speaking to the media, Sarma said, “From whatever Jayanta Das said on TV, it is clear that he never fully supported the BJP government; otherwise, he would not have made such comments. This confirms that our party took the right decision. His heart was never truly with the BJP.”

He added, “Sometimes veteran leaders may feel unhappy, perhaps because they did not get a ticket or for other reasons, but the way he spoke publicly leaves him no scope to continue in the party. I wish him luck, and if he can win the Dispur constituency, I wish him well.”

Senior BJP leader Jayanta Kumar Das had resigned from all positions, including his primary membership of the party, citing “personal inconveniences” in a letter dated March 20 addressed to the state BJP president. In his resignation, Das stated:
“I hereby tender my resignation from all positions, including primary membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Assam Pradesh, on account of my personal inconveniences.”

Das also announced his resignation on social media, alleging that the party had prioritised other considerations over loyalty and sacrifice.

The resignation follows the party’s decision not to field Das from the Dispur constituency, a seat he had reportedly expected to contest. Instead, the BJP allotted the ticket to Pradyut Bordoloi, who recently joined the party after leaving the Indian National Congress
