Himanta Biswa Sarma wants Muslims to become doctors, Ajmal says be human first

In an event inaugurating the Ajmal Super 40 in Kalgachia, AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal on January 7 made pointed remarks seemingly directed at Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The exchange revolves around their differing perspectives on educational priorities.

Ajmal, visibly agitated, took issue with Sarma's earlier statement where the Chief Minister stated the need for doctors and engineers over madrassas. Sarma had argued that Assam's focus should be on building schools, colleges, and universities to produce medical professionals and engineers.

Responding to Sarma's stance, Ajmal declared, "Be human first and become a doctor later," challenging the Chief Minister's emphasis on technical education. This remark comes in the context of a broader debate about the role of madrassas and the direction of educational policies in Assam.

In the event, Ajmal turned his attention to students, particularly Muslim women, admonishing them for wearing makeup and lipstick. He expressed disapproval, stating, "This is a school program, an educational event, not a filmfare award."

The AIUDF chief went further advising Muslim students not to marry individuals who do not wear hijab or engage in makeup. He urged male students not to marry those without a dupatta and criticized their clapping skills questioning their educational focus.

Expressing his discontent, Ajmal abruptly declared the end of the program, saying, "I am upset; the program is over,".

Badruddin Ajmal also took a dig at Congress and called them a "big thief" and the BJP as a "small thief." His controversial remarks extended beyond the event as he urged Muslims not to travel by trains or buses from January 20 to January 25 during the Ayodhya Ram temple event.
