In a touching moment that resonated deeply with many, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma extended financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to an elderly woman who approached him during a BJP rally at Green Field in Kokrajhar on Monday.
The woman, Dolly Rani Devi of Shanti Nagar, humbly sought help when she met the Chief Minister at the workers’ meet. Moved by her plea, Dr. Sarma assured her of immediate support.
True to his word, before departing for Guwahati, the Chief Minister signed a cheque for Rs 50,000 and entrusted Bodoland Territorial Region Executive Member Arup Kumar Dey to deliver it. Later that evening, Dey handed over the cheque at her residence.

“I never imagined I would be heard like this,” said a tearful Devi, expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister and blessing him for his compassion.
Locals hailed the gesture as a rare and heartfelt example of a leader responding directly to a citizen’s need. The moment has since drawn praise for showcasing empathy and accessibility in governance.
