Holi celebrations: 32nd Doul Utsav begins at Sri Sri Kalia Gosai Than in Assam’s Tezpur

Marking the onset of Holi festivities, the 32nd annual public Doul Utsav commenced at Sri Sri Kalia Gosai Than in Bahbari, Tezpur, on March 3 with traditional rituals and a vibrant five-day programme.

The celebrations began with the ceremonial lighting of lamps and hoisting of the festival flag, formally inaugurating the event. Soon after, the temple premises came alive with devotional songs and Holi music, drawing devotees from across the locality and creating a colourful and festive atmosphere.

Organisers described the Doul Utsav as a community-led celebration that brings villagers together every year in a spirit of devotion and unity. They said people from neighbouring areas and other parts of the region are also expected to visit the temple during the five-day festival to take part in the rituals and cultural programmes.

As part of the celebrations, prasad, including khichdi, will be distributed among devotees. The organisers expressed hope that the annual festival would continue to strengthen communal harmony and preserve the region’s rich cultural and religious traditions.

The five-day programme will feature a series of religious ceremonies and cultural performances associated with the traditional Doul festival, observed in Assam as part of Holi celebrations.
