‘I did not go for politics’: Padma Shri awardee Hemoprova Chutia on meeting Badruddin Ajmal
Padma Shri awardee and noted weaver Hemoprova Chutia met AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal at his residence in Hojai, saying her visit was purely personal and had no political motive.
Chutia, who is known for weaving religious scriptures and other works on handlooms, presented Ajmal with a special handwoven textile featuring the National Anthem during the meeting.
The meeting drew attention amid criticism of Ajmal from various quarters over his flood relief activities in Upper Assam.
Clarifying the reason for her visit, Chutia said, “I did not go there for politics. I went for a purely personal reason.” She maintained that the meeting had nothing to do with politics or any issue that could cause harm to society or the community.
Chutia also praised Ajmal for his flood relief efforts in Upper Assam. She said that despite his poor health and advanced age, Ajmal had travelled to flood-affected areas and personally distributed relief materials among the affected people.
She said Ajmal should be thanked for helping flood victims and that unnecessary controversy should not be created when someone does good work for society.
