Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited flood-affected Amatala Nagar village in Lakhimpur district to assess the damage caused. He assured support for those affected, expressing guilt and grief.
Expressing concern over the devastation, the chief minister said, “After the floodwater recedes, construction will be done for the benefit of the local people.”
Furthermore, the chief minister stressed the need for accountability from NEEPCO, saying, “If water is released from the NEEPCO hydroelectric project built in Yazali, Arunachal Pradesh, without any notice, an explanation must be provided for why it was released."
Sarma pledged full support for indigenous residents who suffered losses, stating, “We will help our indigenous local people with all the damage incurred.”
He added that work to restore connectivity from Mothaur will begin on Tuesday. He also expressed grief. "Helping the poor is our responsibility, and we will assist them," CM Sarma added.
The chief minister said he visited the site immediately upon hearing of the flood’s impact, adding, "I came to see it right away. I feel guilty seeing the devastation caused by the flood, and I have come to observe it immediately."
