“I have seen the Congress agenda. 90 per cent of its MLAs were Muslims”: BJP leader Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha
BJP leader Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha on Sunday, May 10 launched a sharp attack on the Congress, alleging that the party’s political approach was driven by minority appeasement and ideological compulsions.
Speaking in Guwahati, Purkayastha said he had closely observed the functioning and political agenda of the Congress during his time in the party. He alleged that the Congress leadership opposed the Citizenship Amendment Bill due to concerns over its exclusion of Muslims and claimed that party leaders avoided taking positions in favour of the Ram Mandir issue to retain minority support.
“A lot of people say that you were in the Congress. I have seen the agenda of the Congress. Ninety per cent Congress MLAs were Muslims. I have seen their agenda,” Purkayastha said while addressing the gathering.
The BJP leader further alleged that Congress leaders were discouraged from supporting the Ram Mandir movement publicly, claiming that doing so could alienate Muslim voters.
“You have to be against the citizenship bill because it does not talk about Muslims. You cannot visit the Ram Mandir because you have to keep Muslims happy. You cannot speak in favour of Ram Mandir,” he said.
Calling the alleged ideology “dangerous to the country,” Purkayastha asserted that such politics weakened national interests and promoted divisive electoral strategies.
