I share a strong emotional connection with northeast, have many memories here: Jyotiradtiya Scindia

Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia on July 27 shared his thoughts about northeast and said that he has many memories and a strong emotional connection with the region.

Addressing the media after a press conference in Guwahati, Scindia said, "I have many memories here and a strong emotional connection with this region. It’s a part of my family, and I will do my best to serve its interests,"

The Scindia family's historical connection to the Northeast, dating back to Maharaja Jiwajirao M Scindia's relief efforts during the 1950 Assam earthquake, continues to influence Jyotiraditya Scindia's dedication to the region's development. Under his leadership, the region has seen significant improvements in air connectivity and various other sectors, positioning it for unprecedented growth and prosperity.

During the conference, Scindia announced a significant allocation of Rs 11,000 crore for flood relief efforts in Assam and Sikkim, emphasizing the government's swift response to the region's pressing issues. He noted the Ministry of DoNER's budget surge from Rs 1,750 crore during the Congress era to Rs 6,000 crore under the NDA regime, marking a significant increase in financial support.
"The Northeast is a vital growth engine for the country," Scindia stated, underscoring the region's strategic importance. He criticized the previous Congress government for neglecting the Northeast, contrasting it with the NDA's robust developmental initiatives. Among these, Scindia mentioned the near doubling of airports in the region, with the number increasing from 9 to 17, including three new airports in Arunachal Pradesh.

Additionally, Scindia announced the establishment of 100 new post offices across the Northeast, reflecting the government's commitment to enhancing connectivity and services. He also highlighted the development of South Asia’s largest cancer hospital network in Assam, with seven new hospitals, and the upcoming first AIIMS in Guwahati.

In terms of technological advancements, Scindia revealed plans for the first national data center in the Northeast to be set up in Assam, along with a Rs 27,000 crore semiconductor unit aimed at revolutionizing the region’s technological landscape. The central government has also allocated Rs 10,000 crore for railway development in the 2024-2025 period, with 70 kilometers of new tracks being laid in Assam.

Reflecting on past achievements, Scindia underscored the timely completion of key infrastructure projects such as the Bogibeel Bridge and the Bhupen Hazarika Setu, both inaugurated under Prime Minister Modi’s tenure.

The press meet concluded with Scindia reaffirming the central government's unwavering commitment to the Northeast's development, promising continued support and investment to propel the region to the forefront of India’s progress.
