‘I will win, Inshallah’: Ajmal turns up heat, challenges BJP's Debashish Sharma to speak in English

AIUDF chief and Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll candidate Badruddin Ajmal on Tuesday, September 22, claimed that he would win the election and challenged BJP candidate Debashish Sharma to speak in English.

Ajmal made the remarks while campaigning in several minority-dominated areas under the Morigaon Assembly constituency.

“I will win the election, Inshallah,” Ajmal told reporters after the campaign. He said Parliament needs people who can deliver lectures rather than sing and challenged Sharma to demonstrate whether he could speak in English.

Ajmal also claimed that Congress candidate Sibamoni Bora had fallen to fifth or sixth position in the contest, though he did not cite any source for the claim.

Speaking about reports of Congress facing resistance in minority-dominated areas, Ajmal said it showed that the party did not have public support in those areas and that people would not vote for it.

On reports of members of the minority community joining the BJP, Ajmal alleged that some were being influenced by monetary inducements and intimidation. He claimed that 80 per cent of Muslims who had joined the BJP would return.

Ajmal said the AIUDF would finish in first place in the election.
