If BPF-UPPL form an alliance, I’ll be the first to extend greetings: Former MP Naba Sarania

With the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections just a month away, political activity is reaching a fever pitch across the region. While parties like the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have already launched aggressive campaigns, the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP), led by former Kokrajhar MP Naba Kumar Sarania, is also asserting its presence with equal vigour.

In a major show of strength, the GSP held a massive rally titled ‘Mission Suraksha 2025’ near Sarai Mari, close to Mushalpur in Baksa district on Tuesday. The rally, which stretched from Sarai Mari to Thamna, witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 500 grassroots workers, particularly from the Dihira Council constituency. Supporters raised resounding slogans in support of council member Ghanshyam Das, asserting confidence in his third consecutive victory.

Addressing the gathering, Sarania reaffirmed the GSP’s political relevance, stating that the party remains a potent force in the region. He expressed confidence in winning not just the Dihira seat but also several other constituencies in the upcoming BTC elections, emphasizing a focused contest in 5 to 10 select seats.

On the issue of political alliances, Sarania acknowledged ongoing discussions with other parties and noted the need for unity among the region’s communities. “If the Bodo community can unite, there’s no reason why we can’t. Talks are underway, and we are keeping an open mind,” he said.

When asked specifically about a possible BPF-UPPL alliance, Sarania offered a diplomatic yet significant response: “If such an alliance materialises, I’ll be the first to extend my greetings. However, in the world of power-driven politics, such unity is often elusive.”

Sarania further stated that the GSP would contest a limited number of seats with the intent of securing concrete wins, underscoring the party's goal to establish itself as a decisive force in the BTC political landscape.
