"If Gaurav Gogoi works hard... together we can": AIUDF eyes BJP's defeat in Assam

All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA and General Secretary Rafiqul Islam has expressed hope for a stronger opposition front in Assam, following the appointment of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi as the new Assam Congress President.

“We can together defeat BJP if Gaurav Gogoi works hard,” said Rafiqul Islam, congratulating Gogoi on his new role.

He highlighted the urgent need for Congress to improve its performance in Upper Assam, noting that the party has not secured any seats in Gogoi’s home district and faced setbacks in recent Panchayat elections.

"In Gaurav Gogoi's home district in the Upper Assam region, Congress has won zero seats. There are some areas where Congress did not win even one seat in the Panchayat elections. I hope he will work hard and put up a strong competition for the BJP there," he said.

Islam also pointed out AIUDF’s strong presence in the minority-dominated areas of the state, where the party currently holds 15 assembly seats. "From the minority dominated areas of Assam, AIUDF has 15 MLAs,” he said.

Further, he added, "We can together defeat BJP if Gaurav Gogoi works hard in his region."

The remarks signal a willingness from AIUDF to work alongside Congress to consolidate opposition votes and strengthen democratic processes in the state.
