IMD predicts heat wave in Assam: Temperatures to exceed 38°C across multiple districts

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted hot and humid weather conditions for Assam over the next 48 hours. 
 

According to the IMD bulletin, Guwahati recorded a temperature of 38.2 degree Celsius on September 21.  
 

Meanwhile, the maximum temperature is likely to rise above 35 degree Celsius, approximately higher by 4-5 degree Celsius over some districts of the state. 
 

Speaking on the rising temperatures, Sanjay Shaw, Director of Meteorology, Guwahati informed that the same can be attributed to the prevailing clear to partly cloudy sky conditions during day time and high solar insolation maximum temperatures. 
 

West Assam is likely to reel under a maximum temperature of 36.0-38.0 °C, while Central Assam will face 35.0-37.0 °C. Northeast Assam will likely be subjected to 36.0-38.0 °C and South Assam my report 34.0-36.0 °C.
 

Furthermore, the report also shared details of temperatures recorded in various areas of the state on September 21. 
 

N Lakhimpur - 38.6°C, Dibrugarh AP - 38.5°C, Tezpur - 38.5°C, Nagaon - 38.2°C, Guwahati Airport - 38.2°C, Rangia - 38.0°C, Tinsukia - 37.9°C, Mazbat - 37.8°C, Goalpara - 37.8°C, Dhubri - 36.8°C, Jorhat 36.8°C.
 

Keeping in mind the prevailing conditions, the IMD released a list of suggestions that must be followed in order to protect against the extreme heat conditions. 
 

1. Wear light weight, light colored, loose, cotton clothes.

2. Cover your head or use hat or umbrella while going out during peak hours.

3. Drink sufficient water even if not feeling thirsty to avoid dehydration.

4. Farmers/ workers may avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during the peak hours.

5. Do not leave children or pets in parked vehicles

6. Rallies/ gatherings need to be monitored during peak hours of the day.
