On the eve of Independence Day, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reaffirmed his government’s push for rapid industrialization, asserting that the drive is not aimed at benefiting corporate giants like Adani, Ambani or Tata, but to create jobs and opportunities for the state’s youth within Assam itself.
In a strongly worded message, the Chief Minister said the goal is to reverse the decades-long trend of outmigration, where young people from Assam travel to other cities to work in low-paying jobs, including as security guards. “We are building an Assam where our youth needn’t go to other cities and work as security guards. They will contribute to Assam’s growth in Assam,” Sarma wrote.
He stressed that the government’s industrialisation agenda was born out of promises made during the “Advantage Assam” global investors’ summit, where the state pledged to create an environment conducive to setting up industries and generating employment.

“Assam needs industrialisation so that we can bring back those lakhs of youths to Assam. We promised parents during Advantage Assam that industries would be built in our state and we would bring back their children,” he stated.
Sarma acknowledged that his government’s policies could face criticism from certain quarters, but maintained that the focus remains on creating sustainable opportunities for Assam’s youth at home. “Some people will criticise us, but we will bring back youths to Assam and create opportunities for them here,” he affirmed.
The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid an ongoing series of industrial and infrastructure announcements aimed at transforming Assam’s economic landscape and reducing the state’s dependence on out-of-state employment.
