Inner Line Permit should be reinstated in Assam similar to that of Arunachal: AJYCP President

Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad President Palash Changmai has reacted to Union Minister Kiren Rijiju’s remarks on Chakmas and Hajongs not being provided with citizenship in Arunachal Pradesh.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju earlier stated that people of Chakma and Hajong communities residing in Arunachal Pradesh will not be provided with the citizenship, since there is the provision of Inner Line Permit. So even if CAA is implemented in the state, the refugees from Bangladesh residing in Arunachal Pradesh will not get citizenship.

The AJYCP President also claimed that Kiren Rijiju, upon discussion with Union Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has decided to give citizenship to the 5-6 lakh refugees from Bangladesh in Assam.

The President has deeply condemned this move and said that they will never accept these propositions. He further urged for the Inner Line Permit to be reinstated in Assam. According to him, this will grant the people of Assam to feel secure in their motherland, just like the residents of Arunachal Pradesh.

Palash Changmai went on to say that AJYCP does not want any Hindu or Muslim, or any other tribal who came before March 25, 1971, to get the citizenship of Assam.
