Tension gripped the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) office in Margherita late Monday night (September 1) after a large group of women from the Alubari area staged a gherao over erratic power supply.
Residents said they have been facing irregular electricity for months, with disruptions occurring even during light rain or wind.
On September 1, power cuts during the day extended late into the night without restoration, prompting the women to surround the APDCL office demanding accountability from officials.
Locals alleged negligence on the part of the department, blaming it for unreliable power supply in rural areas. Many complained that the inefficiency of APDCL has forced people to suffer unbearable heat without fans and basic amenities.
The protest continued into the midnight as residents sought immediate action to resolve the crisis.
