The villagers of Notungaon in the Jorhat district have been spending sleepless nights due to the fear of bullets.
Stray bullets flying into the village have caused a lot of damage to their property so much so that a minor luckily escaped unhurt from a wild bullet fired from a shooting range nearby.
But the question arises from where these bullets are coming, villagers alleged that Indian Air Force personnel practice their shooting skills in the range which causes bullets to stray into their village.
It is to be mentioned here that this village is located close to the Air Force base in Jorhat. Every time the Air Force personnel does their firing exercise, bullets come flying into the village, however, the authorities have allegedly no qualms about the safety of the people of nearby villages.

"The firing range is situated near our village. When the firing exercise takes place, the bullet hit our roofs and doors. Sometimes the bullets fall on our front yard and backyards. We have to change our roofs every 1-2 years because of the damage caused by these stray bullets. Also, when the exercise takes place, we don't allow our children to step out of our homes," one of the villagers said.
While the residents are terrified and pleading with the government and the Indian Air Force to take the necessary precautions to safeguard the children and people of the area, the youngsters are ecstatic.
This is a serious issue since the inhabitants of Notun village have been quite fortunate thus far.
Previously, the residents submitted a formal complaint to the authorities, following which two individuals came for a survey and increased the boundary wall to roughly six feet, but this did not resolve the issue.
