Jalukbari guest house incident: Jorhat woman found unconscious, three detained for questioning

Days after the death of Gauhati University student Nimisha Thakuria at a homestay in Guwahati, another incident involving a young woman has come to light at a guest house in the Jalukbari area.

A 23-year-old woman from Jorhat was found unconscious inside a room at Sunflower Guest House in Jalukbari late on Sunday night, September 27. Police subsequently rescued the woman and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A young man identified as San Miyan, a resident of Sipajhar, has been detained in connection with the incident. Police have also detained the manager of the guest house for questioning.

According to preliminary information, the woman had been brought to the guest house by the young man. Police are examining what happened inside the room and are questioning those connected with the incident. The exact circumstances that led to the woman being found unconscious have not yet been established.

The incident has raised fresh questions over the monitoring and functioning of guest houses and homestays in Guwahati, particularly following the death of Nimisha Thakuria at a homestay in Dharapur last week.

Police are continuing their investigation and further details are awaited.
