Jitendra Singh downplays Pradyut Bordoloi exit, says Congress to finalise 40 tickets today

Assam Congress in-charge Bhanwar Jitendra Singh on March 18 termed the resignation of Pradyut Bordoloi from the Indian National Congress as “unfortunate,” but asserted that it would not weaken the party.

Speaking to the media, Singh said the vacuum created by Bordoloi’s exit would be filled by emerging young leaders joining the party. “There is no doubt that the position Bordoloi ji achieved was due to Congress. Only he can explain why he chose to join the BJP,” he said.

He further emphasised that while senior leaders may come and go, the strength of the party lies in its grassroots workers. “These may be tall leaders, but the campaign is ultimately driven by party workers at the ground level,” Singh added.

On the upcoming Assembly elections, Singh said the party is in the final stages of candidate selection and is likely to take a decision on the remaining 40 tickets later in the day.

The statement comes amid a series of high-profile defections from the Congress in Assam, with the party leadership seeking to project confidence ahead of the crucial polls.
