"Justice will prevail": Zubeen Garg’s sister after court hearing

Palmee Borthakur, sister of late music icon Zubeen Garg, on Monday, December 22 said that seven accused in the case were produced virtually before the court earlier in the day. She added that she was personally present during the proceedings and closely followed the hearing.

Addressing the media after the court appearance, Borthakur stated that one of the accused, Amritprabha Mahanta, has independently appointed legal counsel, signalling that formal legal preparations are underway. According to sources, Mahanta has engaged advocate Gabriel Sahu to represent her in the matter.

Expressing confidence in the judicial process, Borthakur said the family remains hopeful that justice will prevail and that Zubeen Garg will receive justice through due legal and institutional mechanisms.

She further informed that the family is yet to receive a copy of the chargesheet. “Only after we obtain the sealed copy of the chargesheet will it be clear what specific charges have been framed against the accused,” she said.

Commenting on the demeanour of the accused during the virtual court appearance, Borthakur alleged that none of them exhibited any sign of remorse throughout the proceedings.
