Kamrup Metro administration gears up for Ambubachi Mela 2026

With lakhs of devotees expected to converge at the sacred Kamakhya Temple for the annual Ambubachi Mela from June 22 to June 26, the Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration has announced elaborate arrangements to ensure the smooth movement, safety and welfare of pilgrims.

Addressing a press conference at the Doloi Office of Kamakhya Temple on June 18, Kamrup Metropolitan District Commissioner Swapneel Paul detailed the preparations being made for one of Assam's largest religious gatherings. The briefing was attended by temple Dolois, senior police officials and administrative officers.

As part of the arrangements, temporary pilgrim camps will be established at Kamakhya Railway Station and Pandu Port. Dedicated spaces will also be provided for Bhandaras (free community meals) to cater to visiting devotees.

To manage the flow of pilgrims, entry to Nilachal Hill will be regulated through Nursery Point at Maligaon. The administration will set up four control rooms and seven help desks between Nursery Point and the temple premises to assist devotees and provide necessary guidance.

Officials and government staff will be deployed round the clock in shifts throughout the mela period to ensure uninterrupted services and effective coordination.

The district administration stated that all measures are aimed at providing a safe, orderly and spiritually enriching experience for the massive influx of pilgrims expected during the Ambubachi Mela, one of the most significant religious events in the region.
