Karbi Honghari Armu Chingrum Ameipi 2026 celebrated with massive participation in West Karbi Anglong

The Karbi Honghari Armu Chingrum Ameipi 2026 was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Chengbong (Tharvehidi) in West Karbi Anglong district, with more than 40,000 people from different parts of the region participating in the day-long programme.

The event was organised by the Karbi Honghari Armu Chingrum Amei in collaboration with the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), and in association with the Karbi Honghari Youth Association, Karbi Honghari So-Arlo Amei, Karbi Honghari Students’ Union, and Karbi Honghari Rongkhang Youth Longri Amei. The gathering served as a major platform for the preservation and promotion of the Karbi tribe’s rich cultural and religious heritage.

The Karbi Honghari Amei and the Karbi Honghari Sabha are considered the pillars of the community’s religious and cultural identity. The meeting highlighted the importance of safeguarding the nearly 5,000-year-old Karbi civilisation, encompassing traditional rituals, folk songs, music, dances and indigenous belief systems. Special emphasis was laid on inspiring the younger generation to reconnect with and carry forward their ancestral traditions.

Participants from Kopili, Amreng, Bithung, Hamren and Rongkhang areas came together to take part in collective religious observances and cultural showcases. Several groups performed traditional dances and music throughout the day, creating a vibrant atmosphere of unity and cultural pride.

In recent years, such indigenous cultural events have received encouragement and support from the Assam government as part of broader efforts to protect and promote the traditions of tribal communities.

The programme was attended by several dignitaries, including KAAC Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang as the chief guest, Karbi traditional king His Highness Sar Longsing Ronghang as the special guest, Lok Sabha MP Amarsing Tisso, multiple MLAs as guests of honour, along with KAAC executive members, MACs, board chairpersons and other prominent personalities.

The grand celebration reaffirmed the Karbi community’s collective commitment to preserving its ancient legacy while navigating the challenges of rapid modernisation.
