‘Keep distance from Pakistan or you’ll be in trouble’: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma hits out at Gaurav Gogoi
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 26 responded to remarks made by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, accusing him of making divisive statements and raising concerns over repeated references to Pakistan.
Speaking on the sidelines of a foundation stone laying ceremony in Tinsukia, Sarma reacted to Gogoi’s comments that allegedly described him as “Hindu-centric” and sought to portray him as an extremist leader.
“I have no objection if someone calls me Hindu-centric. But I strongly object when examples of Pakistan are cited. He keeps referring to Pakistan, Jinnah and Islamabad,” Sarma said. “If he had given examples from anywhere else, I would have thanked him. I want to tell him to keep distance from Pakistan, otherwise he will be in trouble,” the Chief Minister added.
Responding to another query, Sarma also commented on Raijor Dal leader Akhil Gogoi, saying he should reflect on whether the people he supports genuinely have Assam’s interests at heart.
“Akhil Gogoi should analyse whether those he supports truly want the best for Assam,” Sarma said, alleging that Gogoi was backing forces that do not represent the interests of the state.
