Kokrajhar court sentences man to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment for raping minor
A special POCSO court in Assam's Kokrajhar on September 11 sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl who was studying in Class 10 in 2022.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict, Sahidul Ali. In case of failure to pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional six months of imprisonment.
Special Judge Nurjamal Hoque pronounced the verdict while hearing Special Case No. 28/2022, arising out of Kokrajhar Police Station Case No. 216/2022.
The court found Ali guilty under the relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to Special Public Prosecutor Manjit Kumar Ghos, Ali, who was in his mid-30s at the time, had allegedly kidnapped and raped the Class 10 student in 2022.
The court's conviction followed the trial in the case registered at Kokrajhar Police Station.
