Kokrajhar MLA Sewli Mohilary marks birthday by planting 500 saplings, hosting feast for villagers
Kokrajhar MLA Sewli Mohilary marked her birthday on October 28 by planting 500 saplings at Ultapani in Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park and hosting a community meal for villagers from her constituency.
Moving away from conventional birthday celebrations, Mohilary chose to combine an environmental initiative with an act of community service.
The plantation drive was organised to promote environmental conservation and raise awareness about the importance of protecting nature and preserving green cover.
Mohilary also arranged a meal featuring traditional dishes, including local fish, fried pork, indigenous chicken, goat meat, boiled pork, fish curry, boiled chicken and labra, a traditional mixed vegetable preparation.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA urged people to make environmental protection part of their personal celebrations. She appealed to residents to plant at least one sapling on their birthdays rather than limiting celebrations to cake-cutting, music and dancing.
Mohilary said she would continue working for the welfare of the people with renewed commitment and enthusiasm.
She added that marking personal milestones through activities benefiting society and the state could make celebrations more meaningful.
The initiative sought to highlight how birthday celebrations can also serve as opportunities to promote environmental awareness, encourage community participation and contribute to a greener future.
