Kokrajhar sees poll rush: 43 candidates file 54 nominations across five seats
A total of 40 candidates filed their nomination papers on the final day for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections across five constituencies in Kokrajhar, taking the overall tally to 43 candidates who have submitted 54 nominations in the district.
In 1-Gossaigaon LAC, six candidates entered the fray, including representatives from the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), Indian National Congress, Bodoland People's Front (BPF), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), along with independent contenders.
In 2-Dotma (ST) LAC, five candidates filed nominations on the last day, taking the total to six candidates, with participation from parties like Congress, BPF and VPI, besides independents.
The 3-Kokrajhar (ST) LAC also saw five candidates filing nominations, pushing the total number of contestants to six, including nominees from Congress, BPF and VPI, along with independent candidates.
In 4-Baokhungri LAC, a total of 13 candidates filed nominations on the final day, making it one of the most crowded constituencies. The contest includes candidates from UPPL, Congress, BPF, All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), and several independents.
Meanwhile, 5-Parbatjhora LAC witnessed 11 candidates filing nominations on the last day, with parties such as Congress, BPF, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and others in the fray, alongside a large number of independent candidates.
With scrutiny of nominations scheduled for March 24 and the last date for withdrawal on March 26, the electoral battlelines in Kokrajhar are now firmly drawn. Polling will be held on April 9, with counting slated for May 4.
