Kokrajhar to host 134th edition of Durand Cup football tournament for third time

The historic Durand Cup Football Tournament will return to Assam's Kokrajhar for the third time, with preparations nearing completion in the town known as the "football city" of Assam. The Indian Oil 134th edition of the prestigious tournament, one of the oldest football competitions in the Asia will be held at the SAI Stadium in Kokrajhar starting from July 27.
 

The event is being organised by the Indian Army in collaboration with the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Government. The grand inaugural ceremony, scheduled for July 27, promises to be a colourful affair, featuring vibrant cultural performances and exhibitions. Security forces and army personnel are actively involved in final preparations to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
 

The opening ceremony will witness the presence of several high-profile dignitaries, including Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BTR Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro, and senior officials from the Indian Army.
 

Following are our teams will compete in the Kokrajhar leg of the tournament:
 

Bodoland FC (the home team), Punjab FC, ITBP FT (Indo-Tibetan Border Police Football Team), and Karbi Anglong Morning Star.
 

The opening match will be contested between ITBP FT and Karbi Anglong Morning Star on 27th July. Over the course of the tournament, six league matches will be played between 27th July and 12th August, followed by one quarter-final match scheduled for 16th August.
 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sangrang Brahma, General Secretary of the Assam Football Association, expressed pride in Kokrajhar’s continued role in promoting football and thanked all stakeholders for their support in organizing the tournament at such a high level.
 

The Durand Cup's return to Kokrajhar marks another milestone in promoting sports in the northeastern region.
