Lachit Barphukan Police Academy evolves into national-level training institution: Himanta

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on September 2 said the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy at Dergaon has evolved into a national-level police training institution, with personnel from several states undergoing training at the academy.

Speaking after attending the passing-out parade of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and Assam Police Communication personnel, Sarma said police forces from Assam, Manipur, Goa and other states are being trained at the academy.

The Chief Minister said he had the opportunity to witness the passing-out parade and praised the personnel for their performance.

He also said the State-Level Conference of Superintendents of Police (SPs) would be held at the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy over the next two days.

Sarma said he would stay at the academy during the conference and that discussions would focus on strengthening the Assam Police and addressing key law-and-order challenges.

Issues including crimes against women, crimes against children and the fight against drugs are expected to be among the key areas of discussion during the conference, he said.
