Landslides trigger alarm in Assam's Sribhumi as relentless rains cripple rail and road connectivity

Incessant rainfall over the past several days has plunged Sribhumi and its adjoining areas into a state of acute hardship, with severe disruptions reported in both rail and local transport infrastructure.

In Betail, a locality close to Sribhumi, two sections of the railway line have been severely affected by landslides.

Of particular concern is the collapse of a guard wall adjacent to the railway track that connects Karimganj Station to Mahisasan. The structural failure has raised significant safety concerns, with experts warning of potential hazards to rail operations in the region.

Adding to the crisis, the primary access route used by local residents for daily movement has also been rendered impassable due to the landslides and waterlogging.

Residents report being cut off from essential services and are urging immediate government intervention.

The people of Sribhumi have collectively issued a heartfelt appeal to their elected Member of Parliament, requesting an on-ground visit to assess the situation firsthand. “Please visit our area at least once,” pleaded residents, citing worsening living conditions and a growing sense of neglect.

Local authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding restoration plans, even as public frustration continues to mount.
