Lawyer's motorcycle stolen from Assam's Silchar court premises; non-functional CCTV cameras raise security concerns

The theft of a lawyer's motorcycle from the Silchar court premises has raised serious concerns over security arrangements at the judicial complex, with members of the legal fraternity questioning the effectiveness of surveillance measures.

According to reports, unidentified miscreants stole the motorcycle after it had been parked inside the court campus. The incident was reported to the police, and an investigation has been initiated.

Lawyers alleged that the CCTV cameras installed across the court premises have remained non-functional for nearly a year. Despite repeatedly bringing the issue to the notice of the authorities, they claimed no steps have been taken to repair or replace the surveillance system.

Members of the Bar said that had the CCTV cameras been operational, identifying the culprits would have been much easier. The absence of functional surveillance equipment has complicated the investigation into the theft, they added.

The lawyers have demanded that security at the court complex be strengthened, the defunct CCTV cameras be repaired immediately, and those responsible for the theft be arrested at the earliest.

The incident has reignited concerns over safety and security within the court premises, with legal practitioners urging the authorities to introduce modern surveillance systems and conduct regular security reviews to prevent similar incidents in the future.
