Major fire at mobile oil warehouse in Nagaon’s Islampatty, Rs 10 crore loss feared
A major fire broke out at a mobile oil warehouse in Islampatty, Nagaon, on October 16 amid Durga Puja celebrations, with property worth an estimated Rs 10 crore feared to have been destroyed.
The fire erupted at the warehouse located directly opposite Nemcare Hospital, with flames spreading rapidly and engulfing the premises. The incident triggered concern as the warehouse is situated close to a densely populated residential neighbourhood and a busy commercial area.
The fire reportedly originated inside the mobile oil warehouse, although the exact cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained. The scale of the fire raised fears of extensive damage, but a major disaster was narrowly averted as the adjoining residential and commercial areas escaped the worst of the blaze.
Fire and emergency services rushed to the spot and launched efforts to bring the flames under control. However, the fire had not been completely extinguished at the time of reporting.
Property worth around Rs 10 crore is suspected to have been damaged, though the exact extent of the losses is yet to be officially confirmed.
The incident occurred during the Durga Puja festivities, casting a shadow over the celebrations in Nagaon. Further details regarding the cause of the fire and the final damage assessment are awaited.
Separately, a major fire was also reported at Jyoti Flour Mill in Haibargaon early on October 16. Firefighters were engaged in efforts to contain that blaze as well, with property and goods worth several lakhs of rupees feared damaged.
