Man-elephant conflict: Panic grips Assam's Gossaigaon after wild jumbo goes on rampage

The free movement of elephants in Gossaigaon has sparked widespread panic and fear among residents.

A wild elephant strayed out of the Raimona National Park, wreaking havoc in the area. The unexpected appearance of the elephant, believed to have ventured out of the national park in search of food, has prompted authorities to spring into action to mitigate the escalating situation.

The elephant's presence in the Shaljuri village of Gosaigaon sub-division has caused considerable distress among locals, who have been left in awe and apprehension at the sight of the massive animal roaming through their neighborhood. Scores of people have been gathering to catch a glimpse of the elephant, further adding to the chaos and concerns for safety in the area.

Efforts to contain the situation have been met with challenges, as both police and forest department teams dispatched to the village have struggled to effectively chase away the elephant.

"One elephant came. People came looking for the elephant. The elephant looking at those people may have got angry, he broke 3-4 homes. The elephant is still here, he might do some other destruction as well”, reported one local resident.

Despite their concerted efforts, the persistent presence of the elephant has led to an unfortunate incident, wherein the house of Robin Hasda, a resident of Shaljuri village, was damaged, and other property was vandalized.
